Description

Savage 10 GRS Rifle — .308 Winchester, 20″ Fluted Threaded Barrel

The Savage 10 GRS pairs Savage’s short action and AccuTrigger with a GRS adjustable stock and a 20-inch heavy fluted barrel.

It is a precision rifle at a working price, and the 20-inch barrel is the detail that defines it.

Why 20 Inches, Not 24

Most .308 precision rifles run 24 or 26 inches. The Savage 10 GRS does not, and that is a choice rather than a compromise.

.308 Winchester burns its powder charge efficiently in a short barrel. You give up perhaps 60–90 fps against a 24-inch tube — real, but small.

What you gain is a rifle that handles. At 40 inches overall and 8.9 lbs, it moves between positions in a way a 46-inch rifle does not.

Add a suppressor and the difference grows. A can on a 24-inch barrel gives you a very long rifle. On this one it gives you a normal-length rifle that is quiet.

Savage 10 GRS Stock and Trigger

The GRS stock adjusts for length of pull and comb height. The forend and grip carry a textured rubber surface.

Fibreglass reinforcement keeps it rigid without the weight of a full chassis. That is why the Savage 10 GRS weighs 8.9 lbs rather than the 10-plus a metal chassis would add.

The AccuTrigger is user-adjustable without a gunsmith. On most rifles at this price a trigger upgrade is the first thing an owner buys — here it is already sorted.

.308 or 7.62 NATO?

The Savage 10 GRS chamber is .308 Winchester, and the distinction matters.

.308 Winchester and 7.62×51 NATO are dimensionally similar but not identical in pressure specification and chamber dimensions — differences documented by SAAMI.

A .308-chambered rifle is safe with commercial .308. Surplus 7.62 NATO is a more nuanced question, and worth confirming rather than assuming.

Stock up on .308 Winchester ammunition, compare 7.62×51 NATO loads, or browse the wider rifle ammunition range.

The 1:10 twist handles standard 168- and 175-grain match bullets, which is where .308 does its best work.

What You Still Need

Optic mounts are included. A scope is not.

Budget for glass, rings if your mounts need them, and a bipod. The threaded muzzle takes a brake or a suppressor — suppressors are NFA-regulated items requiring a separate federal transfer through the ATF, sold separately.

How It Compares

The Remington 700 PCR Enhanced is the full-chassis alternative — heavier, longer barrel, more adjustment, aimed squarely at competition.

The Bergara B-14 Terrain Wilderness is the lighter hunting-first option if you carry more than you shoot.

For cheap practice on similar ergonomics, the Anschutz 1710 XLR rimfire trainer lets you drill positions without burning .308.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why only a 20-inch barrel on a precision rifle? .308 burns efficiently in a short barrel. You lose roughly 60–90 fps against a 24-inch tube and gain a rifle that handles far better — particularly with a suppressor fitted.

Is the muzzle threaded? Yes, 5/8″-24 with a thread protector fitted. Brakes and suppressors fit directly; suppressors are NFA items sold separately.

Can I shoot 7.62×51 NATO in it? The chamber is .308 Winchester. The two are similar but not identical in pressure and chamber spec — confirm before running surplus 7.62 NATO.

Does it come with a scope? No. Optic mounts are included, but glass, rings and a bipod are separate.

Is the AccuTrigger adjustable at home? Yes, by the user without a gunsmith.

What magazine does it use? A 10-round detachable box magazine.

How heavy is it? 8.9 lbs bare, 40 inches overall — lighter than a full metal chassis rifle of comparable capability.

Does it ship to my house? No. It must ship to a licensed FFL dealer in your state for transfer and background check.
