What the Ballistic Tip Is — and What It Isn’t

Every other hunting load in this 6.5 PRC category uses a bonded core. The Nosler Ballistic Tip 6.5 PRC does not.

The Ballistic Tip uses a tapered copper jacket over a lead core, held together mechanically.

Under impact, the polymer tip initiates expansion rapidly — more aggressively than a bonded design. This produces large wound channels and fast energy transfer.

The tradeoff: at high velocity, close-range impacts, or against heavy bone, a non-bonded bullet can fragment more than a bonded one. Core and jacket separation is more likely than with an AccuBond or Terminal Ascent.

For deer at typical hunting distances, that tradeoff is not a problem — it is the design intent.

The Nosler Ballistic Tip 6.5 PRC has been one of the most successful deer bullets produced for over 25 years.

For elk, moose, or shots that will pass through heavy bone, look at a bonded option in this category.

The Ballistic Tip Design

Polymer tip. Red polymer tip initiates expansion and protects against tip deformation in the magazine. The tip is colour-coded by calibre — .264″ (6.5mm) tips are blue.

Tapered jacket. The jacket thickens from nose to base, controlling expansion through the penetration path. Rapid expansion at the nose, more resistance deeper in.

Boat tail base. Reduces base drag for improved BC and retained velocity at range.

Nosler Trophy Grade brass. This is Nosler’s own brass — cases checked for correct length, necks sized and trued, flash holes checked. The same brass used in Trophy Grade AccuBond loads.
