Description
Federal Premium Terminal Ascent 6.5 PRC 130gr — 400 Rounds
The Federal Premium Terminal Ascent 6.5 PRC is the most technically advanced hunting bullet in this category.
It is a bonded, semi-copper construction with a Slipstream polymer tip designed to initiate expansion at velocities 200 fps lower than comparable designs.
At 3,000 fps and $2.00 per round in a 400-round case, this is Federal’s premium all-range 6.5 PRC hunting load.
What Terminal Ascent Does Differently
Every other hunting bullet in this 6.5 PRC range expands reliably when impact velocity is above a design threshold.
Below that threshold — at 500 or 600 yards, where the bullet has slowed — expansion becomes unreliable.
Federal designed the Federal Premium Terminal Ascent 6.5 PRC specifically for this problem. Three design elements work together:
Slipstream polymer tip. Patented. At impact, it initiates expansion 200 fps lower than comparable polymer-tip designs. This is what extends reliable performance further downrange.
Bonded core with copper shank. The lead core is chemically bonded to the jacket, and the rear portion of the bullet is solid copper. Under impact, core and jacket stay together through heavy bone. Weight retention across all ranges is Federal’s stated design goal.
AccuChannel groove technology. Machined grooves on the bullet shank reduce drag and improve accuracy. Similar in function to relief grooves on solid copper designs, without the solid copper throughout.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why does this cost more than Federal Fusion in the same category? Terminal Ascent has a more complex construction — copper shank, chemically bonded lead core, Slipstream tip, AccuChannel grooves — specifically engineered for reliable expansion at long-range low-velocity impacts. Fusion is a deer hunting load; Terminal Ascent is for any range on large game.
How does the Slipstream tip work? Under impact, it collapses into the hollow point cavity, initiating expansion. Federal claims this happens reliably at impact velocities 200 fps lower than comparable polymer-tip designs.
Is it lead-free? No — bonded lead core in the front portion, solid copper shank at the rear. Not California-compliant for hunting.
How does it compare to the Winchester EBGLR 142gr in this range? Both are bonded large-game loads. Winchester uses AccuBond LR at 3,020 fps and 142 grain. Terminal Ascent is 130 grain at 3,000 fps with Federal’s Slipstream tip and AccuChannel. The choice between them is largely a matter of brand preference and which your barrel groups more accurately.
What is AccuChannel groove technology? Machined grooves on the bullet shank that reduce drag. Federal claims improved accuracy as a result — similar in concept to relief grooves on solid copper bullets, which also serve this function.
Can I reload the brass? Yes — standard brass, Boxer-primed.
How many rounds is 400? 20 × 20-round boxes.
What’s the per-round cost? $800 / 400 = $2.00 per round.
