The Matrix Tip — The Problem It Solves

The .30-30 Winchester presents a unique challenge that most other rifle cartridges don’t: lever-action tubular magazines.

In a tubular magazine, cartridges stack nose-to-primer. A spitzer tip rests directly against the primer of the round in front of it.

Under recoil, that contact can detonate the primer in the magazine — a dangerous condition that drove generations of .30-30 hunters to flat-nose bullets.

The traditional solution was flat-nosed or round-nosed bullets. These are safe in tubular magazines but sacrifice ballistic coefficient and downrange velocity compared to pointed designs.
