Why VOR-TX Long Range, Not Standard VOR-TX

Barnes makes both VOR-TX and VOR-TX Long Range. The LR version is not simply a larger case count — the bullet itself is different.

Standard VOR-TX uses the TTSX: a solid copper bullet with three relief grooves, optimised for conventional hunting distances and velocities.

VOR-TX Long Range (this product) uses the LRX: a longer, more streamlined bullet with a higher BC. The extended ogive and additional relief groove reduce drag at extended distances, and the engineered nose cavity is specifically designed to initiate reliable expansion even at the reduced velocities of long-range impacts.

For shots inside 300 yards, standard VOR-TX is appropriate.

For shots past 400 yards, the Barnes VOR-TX Long Range 6.5 Creedmoor is the correct Barnes option.

The LRX Bullet

LRX stands for Long Range X-Bullet. Three design elements distinguish it from the TTSX:

Extended ogive and boat tail. The longer, more streamlined nose reduces drag and increases BC. The boat tail further reduces base drag at long range. The result is a bullet that retains velocity and energy more effectively at extended distances.

Engineered nose cavity. On impact, the nose cavity peels back into four cutting petals. The geometry is calibrated specifically for the velocity window the bullet occupies at 400–700+ yards — not the velocity at the muzzle.

Solid copper construction. No lead core to separate from the jacket. The Barnes VOR-TX Long Range 6.5 Creedmoor retains near-100% weight through penetration at any range, close or extended.

Relief grooves. Machined into the copper shank to reduce bearing surface and pressure, compensating for solid copper’s higher bearing area relative to jacketed lead-core bullets.
