Description

Uberti 1861 Navy — .36 Caliber, 7.5″ Barrel, Brass Trigger Guard

The Uberti 1861 Navy (brass trigger guard variant) is a .36 calibre percussion revolver.

It bridges the 1851 Navy and 1860 Army in one design: round barrel from the Army, engraved Navy cylinder, case hardened frame with brass trigger guard and backstrap.

It ships to your door. No FFL required — see the ordering section.

How This Differs From the Other Uberti 1861 Navy

You may have noticed we carry two Uberti 1861 Navy listings. Here is the practical difference:

This revolver The other 1861 Navy
Trigger guard Brass Steel
Backstrap Brass Steel
Frame Case hardened Case hardened

Everything else — calibre, barrel, cylinder, weight, overall length, price — is the same.

Choose this one if you prefer the visual contrast of brass fittings against a blued barrel and case hardened frame. Choose the steel-guard version for the more subdued, all-steel finish.

What the 1861 Navy Combined

The description notes this accurately: the 1861 draws from both the 1851 and 1860 patterns.

The Uberti 1861 Navy draws its .36 calibre, tapered barrel profile, and Navy grip from the 1851. The 1860 contributed the improved ratchet-style loading lever mechanism and the round barrel.

It also includes shoulder stock screws — fittings for the attachable stock sold with original Colts for longer-range accuracy.

The Shoulder Stock Screws

Most buyers won’t use these. They’re worth knowing about.

Original Colt 1861 Navies were sold with an optional detachable shoulder stock, which converted the revolver into a carbine-length arm for extended range.

This one is fitted with those screws, so a compatible replica stock can be attached. A compatible Uberti shoulder stock is a separate purchase; contact us if this matters for your build.

What You Need to Shoot It

This revolver does not arrive ready to fire.

You need loose black powder or an approved substitute, .375–.380″ round balls, percussion caps sized to these nipples, and lubricant or wads.

Browse our black powder supplies for consumables.

Never use smokeless powder in any black powder arm. Observe the charge range Uberti specifies for this revolver.

Cleaning After Every Shoot

Black powder fouling is corrosive. Clean with hot soapy water the same day you shoot.

Remove the cylinder, clean every chamber and nipple, dry all parts thoroughly, then oil before storage. The brass fittings do not rust but should be wiped dry before storage.

💬 Before You Go — Brass or Steel Guard?

Own one of these? Leave a review — and tell us whether you chose brass over steel for the look or for another reason, because that’s what a buyer comparing the two variants actually wants to know. And if you came looking for a revolver we don’t stock, tell us which one. ⚔️

Frequently Asked Questions

How does this differ from the other Uberti 1861 Navy listing? Trigger guard and backstrap material only — this one is brass, the other is steel. Everything else is identical.

Do I need an FFL? Generally no. Percussion muzzleloading revolvers aren’t classified as firearms under the Gun Control Act, so federal law usually permits shipment directly to you. State rules vary.

What are the shoulder stock screws for? Fittings for an optional detachable shoulder stock that converts the revolver into a carbine-length arm. Compatible Uberti stocks are available separately.

What ball size does it take? .375 to .380 inches.

Is the backstrap really brass? The title and features list say brass; the description text says steel. We’re confirming with Uberti. The short description will be updated once confirmed.

Is the cylinder engraved? Yes — Navy roll-engraved cylinder.

How do I clean it after shooting? Hot soapy water the same day — remove the cylinder and clean every chamber and nipple. Dry completely, then oil. Black powder fouling is corrosive.

Is it suited for Civil War reenacting? Yes. The 1861 Navy was a transition-era Colt carried by both sides late in the war.
